Relive Hawaii's History Remembering Pearl Harbor
Relive one of the most significant moments in the History of the Hawaiian
Islands and the world with this historical excursion. On
December 7, 1941, approximately 150 vessels lay at anchor or alongside
Piers in Pearl Harbor. All but one of the Pacific Fleet’s Battleships was in port.
By 10am, 21 vessels lay sunk or damaged and 1,177 crewmen had lost
their lives. The USS Arizona is a 184-foot long memorial structure spanning
the mid-portion of the sunken ship housing the marble memorial wall with
the names of all those who lost their lives engraved so we may never forget.
Tour Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific
After your morning at Pearl Harbor, you'll depart for a drive-thru tour of the
National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as the Punchbowl.
Officially dedicated on Sep. 2, 1949, it sits in the Puowaina Crater, an extinct volcano. It is the final resting place
of more than 25,000 US soldiers, many killed during WWII. A gigantic memorial
contains 8 marble courts representing different Pacific regions. The names
of 26,289 Americans missing in action from World War II and the Korean War
are inscribed here. Additional smaller courts display the names of 2,489 missing
in action from the Vietnam War. With over 112 meticulously landscaped acres,
this is one of the most moving and beautiful National Cemeteries.
Honolulu Highlights Complement This Excursion
The day concludes with a tour of Honolulu that includes the Kawaiahao Church (church of the Pacific Monarchs), the State
Library and Archives, King Kamehameha Statue, City Hall and the Iolani Palace
(the only royal palace on American soil). Then you
Will have time to enjoy souvenir shopping at the Aloha Tower Marketplace before returning to Waikiki.
