Great Golf and Panoramic Ocean Views
Mauna Lani Resort South Course, renown as the former home to the annual Senior Skins Game from 1990 - 2000, snakes through the stark, rugged a'a lava of the prehistoric Kaniku lava flow. A playful fictitious Menehune by the name of Moke has been known to frequent the lava areas surrounding this course. If you should strike your ball towards the lava, don’t scream your normal superlatives, instead, yell "HELP MOKE"! If he favors you, your ball just might miraculously bounce back onto the fairway. Besides great Hawaii golf, the challenging golf course offers the player a panorama of mountain and ocean views.
Subtle Breaking Greens
The South Course is home to #15, one of the most photographed over-the-water golf course holes in the world. A par 3, it requires a tee shot over the ocean to the green. Hole #7, another par 3, borders the ocean and during the winter months golfers can enjoy watching humpback whales migrating offshore. Most of the greens are flat and you can roll your ball to the flag. The speed of the greens is sometimes hard to determine and there are many subtle breaks.
