A little further up the coast Kealakekua Bay (sometimes referred to as James Cook Bay); a Marine Life Conservation District and an important historic location as well, marking the death of Captain James Cook in 1779. Today, a white obelisk on the shore stands as a memorial, overlooking brilliant waters, filled with beautiful coral and schools of brightly colored tropical fish. The protected bay is perfect for snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking.
